Eight-year-old Natasha conducted an surgery intervention in Kyiv City Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital "Eye Microsurgery Center", applying innovative technology
It is difficult for a girl to hide her joy: she was finally allowed to take off her prism glasses, which she wore for almost two years.
“At first, at school, students were laughed at me, but the teacher explained to the children that they should not tease me, and they were stopped,” says eight-year-old Natasha. - But now I see everything without glasses, my eyes have no skew deviation. However, while it is necessary to go to classes in the office of the protection of sight to train eyes at special devices. But I agree to do everything to become healthy
- “The granddaughter from birth had intense squint, one eye went to the nose and after some time, as doctors say, almost completely became disconnected, and visual acuity remained only up to two percent,” says the girl’s grandmother, Natalya Leonidovna. Parents were not attended to the daughter, and when the child was five years old, they were deprived of parental rights. I have issued guardianship. I understood that time was missed and it was urgent to correct the situation. From Slavyansk, where we live, we were sent to the regional hospital in Donetsk. They offered to first improve vision, and only then eliminate strabismus, explaining that it will take several operations. Then Natasha and I went to Kyiv, to the Eye Microsurgery Center. Here she was immediately calculated the angle of strabismus, successfully operated on and assignmented special glasses with prisms. Now, three years later, I can admit: I even did not count on such a result. Granddaughter's eyes directed straight, and her eyesight has returned: it has become not two, but 70 percent!
- The peculiarity of the new technology developed by the Pecularity of our technology developed by the collective of authors, which includes specialists from our Center and the Institute for Information Recording of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, is that by conducting diagnostics, we can very accurately up to one degree calculate the angle of strabismus, as well as select prism glasses, - says Professor Sergey Rykov, head doctor of the Eye Microsurgery Center, head of the Association of Pediatric Ophthalmologists of Ukraine (pictured). “Now, almost 30 percent of children manage to get rid of strabismus without surgery. The rest requires surgery, but not in two or three stages, as it was before. In one surgery, the defect is completely eliminated. The most important thing is that the ophthalmologists of all Ukraine master the new methodology. We will successfully cope with this task, as we have a professional association, the Association of Pediatric Ophthalmologists. Thanks to the scientific and practical conferences and seminars where such members of the association participate, I think that in the near future all children with squint (and there are almost 400 thousand in Ukraine) will receive highly qualified help.
